More than $300,000 was raised at the 13th Annual Men’s Classic Golf Tournament to help close — and surpass — Leadership Sinai’s $2 million pledge in support of the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute. With the help of the tournament on June 21, Leadership Sinai, Mount Sinai’s dynamic group of young professionals, achieved its pledge in less than two years, setting a record for meeting its pledge in the shortest period of time.

The Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Gala 2007 at Roy Thomson Hall raised more than $900,000 toward the Auxiliary’s $3.5-million Healthy Babies pledge. The highlight of the evening was a live performance by Canadian jazz sensation Diana Krall, herself a new mother of twins.

This Spring, Mount Sinai staff and volunteers participated in the I’m a Mount Sinai Star Family Campaign in support of Mount Sinai Hospital. Family campaign highlights included Centres of Excellence Day, where staff helped raise awareness — and funds — for our five newly-created Centres, and a 24-hour bike-a-thon, which brought staff from all areas of the Hospital come out and break a sweat before the bicycle was raffled off to a lucky winner! In August women hit the links in support of the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre at the 11th Annual Scotiabank Drive fore a Cure.

In September, members of the community gathered at To Life, a special event honouring the lifelong contributions of a select group of visionaries. Commemorating the 35th anniversary of Lifestyles magazine, funds raised at the event support the highest priorities at Mount Sinai Hospital and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.

The Toronto Centre for Phenogenomics officially opened on October 1 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The Centre brings together researchers from Mount Sinai, St. Michaels, SickKids, and University Health Network in a new state-of-the-art facility that will enhance collaboration and lead to treatments for a variety of diseases.

On October 17, Mount Sinai celebrated the official opening of The Fred A. Litwin Family Centre in Genetic Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital & University Health Network, a clinical centre that will enhance the care provided to patients and their families by bringing genetic research from the laboratory bench into clinical practice.

At a special event on October 24, Mount Sinai re-launched Legacy Sinai, its legacy giving program, and Legacy Sinai members had the chance to share their personal stories with one another. Several said that Mount Sinai had saved their lives, and that their legacy gift was a way for them to help ensure that future generations receive the same compassionate, competent care.

The 2nd Annual Behind Closed Doors in October raised more than $230,000 in support of the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre.

More than $100,000 was raised at the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Liv Blu event on November 12 toward the Auxiliary’s $3.5-million Healthy Babies pledge. This pledge helps to support, care for, and monitor pre-term babies, purchase incubators and fetal monitoring equipment and fund fetal health research at the Lunenfeld.

The newly renovated Gerald and Nancy Pencer Endoscopy Centre provides a more soothing environment for endoscopy patients. Staff gathered in December to tour the facility and thank Ms. Pencer for her generous gift.

Canadian award-winning country/rock group Blue Rodeo performed, signed autographs, and were photographed with fans in Mount Sinai’s main lobby in December. Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor also surprised some of Mount Sinai’s chemotherapy patients with a special visit to their floor.

The Hershenhorn family gathered at Mount Sinai on the first night of Chanukkah for a special menorah lighting ceremony. The menorah was made possible through their generous gift.

Café Scientifique kicked off a new outreach discussion series where experts – including Mount Sinai researchers – engage in a public debate about a range of hot-button issues.

Israeli Consul General Amir Gissin visited Mount Sinai on February 11 and met with several staff and physicians, and toured the Peter A. Silverman Centre for International Health, the Valentine NICU, the Lunenfeld, and the Surgical Skills Lab.
