The Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the world’s top biomedical research centres. Research here has a far-reaching impact on the health of the local and international community.
Dr. Dan Drucker is Director of the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre and a Principal Investigator at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital. His research has led to a new drug that has just been approved in Canada for use against diabetes. It’s the first in a new class of medications that will help control type 2 diabetes with far fewer side effects than previous drugs.
“Because of this development work, we now have support from the pharmaceutical industry to help us in developing new medications,” says Dr. Drucker.
“Mount Sinai is leading the fight against diabetes, as it is with so many other diseases,” says Dr. Drucker. “We want to continue to be there for our patients when novel treatments and new drugs are developed. In fact, we want to be the ones coming up with those novel treatments and drugs.”
