• The number of physicians in the Department has increased to 24 anesthetists. In 2003 the number was 19 anesthetists.
  • The number of Clinical Fellows has increased to 12, 10 of which are International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and two fellows are from the McGill program that has their Royal College Fellowships. The increase in staffing has allowed us to fulfill our obligations to the surgical lists including the Wait list.
  • We are expecting Dr. C Arzola to arrive in July 2008, complete his master’s degree and join the staff as an IMG Academic. Dr. M. Joshi will join the staff in July 2009.
  • Dr.Balki has been notified that she is the recipient of funds from the Canadian Anesthesiologist’s Society for 2008. Her research is primarily directed to obstetric anesthesia.
  • Dr. Sharon Davies has developed a successful computer modular teaching program for which she received the David Fear award in 2008.
  • Dr. I. Devito has been appointed the Undergraduate Program Director for the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto.
  • Dr. Jose Carvalho, Director of Obstetric Anesthesia was Visiting Professor to many Departments during 2008 and spoke at the recent World Congress of Anesthesiologists.
  • The Advanced Anesthesia Assistant Program was passed by the Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) early in 2008. Dr. Eric Goldszmidt guided the proposal to its successful passage by the MAC.
